PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
Ernie Lehman, founder of Ernie’s Bicycle Shops, desired his central store to be more connected with the bicycling environment. The hustle and bustle of downtown Massillon did not allow for the community involvement he was looking for. In conjunction with Stark Parks, this new site was chosen along the Ohio Erie Canal Tow Path trail, which has been converted to miles of trails winding all the way from Cleveland and continuing down south. The building draws upon the designs of the 19th century when the canal was heavily used for industry. The wood structure with metal roof provides shelter to both bikers and shoppers on its generous, covered, front porch. This has become more than just another shop; it is community gathering point and a wonderful place to take a break from traveling the Tow Path trail.
