Project Description
After building the first facility in Medina, a second indoor tennis facility was built in Westlake, Ohio. The 63,330 sf building is a full service tennis facility that is located on a beautiful 5-acre wooded site.
This climate controlled environment provides comfort to players and spectators alike. The 52,000 sf of first floor is divided into eight US Open Blue courts (four on each side of a central core area), and the 11,000 sf clubhouse includes locker rooms, a second floor member's lounge and kitchenette, a child care room, and a pro shop.
Utilizing our expertise in "green" design, Harris/Day incorporated highly efficient wall and ceiling systems (R-25 and R-30 respectively). Other areas included in energy efficiency was the utilization of carbon monoxide detectors to provide a more efficient heating and cooling system; a "WATTSTOPPER" lighting control system with occupancy sensors to reduce electrical usage; and in addition, a literal "green" endeavor... tree preservation.
Many mature trees and vegetative areas were spared the saw and chipper. Through careful project planning and construction staging analysis, we were able to avoid stripping the site clean which is so often the 'norm'.
Recognition
"This was a great team effort [design and construction] accomplished in a short time frame to create one of the finest tennis facilities in Northeast Ohio. We couldn't be happier with the outcome of the facility."
