National First Ladies Library

Location

Canton, Ohio

Client Name

National First Ladies Library

Project Description

President McKinley and his wife lived in the Saxton McKinley house in downtown Canton while he served in the U.S. House of Representatives.  In the late 1990’s, the Saxton McKinley house was officially sited as the National First Ladies Library, the first museum to dedicate itself to telling the history of America’s First Ladies and other accomplished American Women.

The 3 story brick structure has been restored both inside and out.  From the brick veneer and windows to the wall coverings and furniture, Harris/Day helped to recreate this stunning devotion to women’s lives.

Recognition

"Thanks to the First Ladies’ Library, the history of America’s first ladies will continue to be told one lady at a time.”
