SoL Harris/Day Architecture is pleased to announce the groundbreaking for their new office building. After 40 plus years in business, the firm has developed a unique design for their own offices and plan to move to their new location near the corner of Portage Street and Frank Avenue in Jackson Township later this the fall.
This new building offers SoL Harris/Day an opportunity to develop the firm's vision on sustainable design and to work in an environment that is built on our mission...Designed for People; Designed for Life. Sustainable Design is at the core of our mission; we integrate 'green' strategies into every decision we make. Our LEED Accredited Professionals design for energy efficiency, product quality and durability, and minimal environmental impact. We add value throughout the life of our buildings and for future generations.
The new office space will be a model for sustainable design practices and is developed with a goal of LEED Gold Certification. From the demolition phase to the final product, many 'green' strategies are being utilized including salvaging and recycling the existing barn and house; design of a super insulated building including ICF foam block foundation to decrease energy use; combination wood/metal trusses to decrease the use of wood; a partial white roof to reflect sunlight; a partial green planted roof and specific landscaping to reduce flooding; recycled insulation; abundant natural light on east and south wall to lower artificial lighting and decrease electric usage; and low flow plumbing fixtures to decrease water usage.
